Sketches 1

I did a few sketches combining the cat's cradle and the criss cross forms of bridge cables, and then I darkened the interiors creating different forms and spaces.

  1. These shapes start to create some very dramatic forms. The next step would be to look at the constraints of the site - the neighboring buildings, and how the building responds through the "cats cradle"

  2. These are beautiful sketches. How are you thinking they will inform your design - in the planning and volumes of the bulding, or in the elevations, or something else? The left hand second from top looks like something you might translate into real spaces - and the curves and soft edges might be appropriate for the school for the blind. The top left one looks like you already designed the massing of the building - all folded planes like origami. Why did you pick cats cradle and bridge cable as a starting point for the sketches? What is the next step in your design process?
    Nice work.

  3. Ms. Gilliland thank you, the reason why I picked the bridge cable and the cat's cradle is because, the site is located in between the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge, after doing some site analysis I wanted to use the criss cross forms of the cables on the bridges, that's also one of the reason's why I choose to use cat's cradle because the cables on the bridge's always reminded me the game cat's cradle, I thought it'll be interesting to use these two on my design.
